Who we are

Gifts of Kent ("we", "us") is a handmade gift business run by Jessica Mellor from Kent, England. You can contact us at any time about your personal data at jessica@giftsofkent.co.uk.

We are the "data controller" for the personal information described below. That means we decide how and why your information is used, and we are responsible for looking after it under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

What information we collect

We only collect what we need to answer you and to make and deliver your bespoke order:

Enquiry and order details. When you send an enquiry through our contact form or basket, we collect your name, email address and the message or basket of items you send us. We use this to reply, agree the design and price with you, and make your piece.

Account details. If you create an account, we store your name, email address and a securely encrypted record of your sign-in. Your password is never visible to us.

Delivery details. If you arrange delivery, we collect the name and address the order should go to, and use it only for that order.

Payment. We never take payment on this website. Payment is arranged directly with you once your order is agreed, so we do not collect or store any card or bank details on this site.

Why we use your information (and our legal basis)

To reply to your enquiry and fulfil your order — this is necessary for the contract between us once you ask us to make something.

To run your account — necessary for the contract you enter when you sign up.

To keep honest business records (for example, orders agreed and prices confirmed) — necessary for our legitimate interests, and for meeting any legal or tax obligations.

We will never sell your data, and we do not use it to send marketing you have not asked for.

Who we share it with

Only the service providers that make the website work, each under strict data-processing agreements: our website and database host, our email delivery service (which sends your enquiry confirmation), and our shop catalogue platform. Your delivery address is shared with the postal or courier service, only when needed to get your order to you.

We never share your data with anyone else, and it is never transferred outside the UK or EEA without adequate protection.

Cookies and similar technologies

This website only uses strictly necessary storage:

Sign-in session — if you have an account, a secure token keeps you signed in. Without it, accounts would not work.

Your basket — the items you add are remembered on your own device so your enquiry can be sent. This is stored on your device only.

We use no advertising cookies, no analytics trackers and no social media tracking. Because everything we use is strictly necessary, we do not need to show a cookie consent banner. If you clear your browser storage, your basket and sign-in are simply forgotten — nothing is lost from our side.

How long we keep information

Enquiries that don't become orders are kept for up to 12 months, then deleted. Order correspondence and delivery records are kept for up to 6 years, as business and tax records. Account details are kept until you ask us to delete your account.

How we protect your data

All traffic to this website is encrypted (HTTPS). Access to our database is restricted and credentials are never stored in the website itself. We review the site's security settings regularly. No system can promise perfect security, but if anything ever did go wrong with your personal data, we would tell you and the Information Commissioner's Office without undue delay, as the law requires.

Your rights

You can ask us at any time to: give you a copy of the data we hold about you; correct it; delete it; restrict or object to how we use it; or send it to you in a portable format. Email jessica@giftsofkent.co.uk and we will respond within one month. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk if you are unhappy with how we've handled your data — though we'd always hope to put things right first.
